Types of bunk beds, functionality and efficiency for the contract sector

Bunk beds are typically used in small spaces and are especially popular in children’s bedrooms, thanks to the wide range of options they offer in terms of space. That said, it’s important to know the types of bunk beds available in order to be able to choose the most suitable option for our space and intended use.

The classic spaces where bunk beds have always been found include youth hostels, boats, boarding schools, prisons, etc. However, it’s now become common to see bunk beds in children’s rooms as a solution to be able to accommodate everyone. They have taken on life as a useful, decorative element that can equip a small home without sacrificing comfort.

General features

There are currently different types of bunk beds on the market, which are typically used in children’s bedrooms:

  • Traditional bunk beds: two identical beds situated one just above the other. It is the most classic style and the one that has been used for decades. However, nowadays we find multiple versions of this classic model, such as a lower bed that hides a third bed.
  • L-shaped bunks: one bed is in line with one of the walls, while the other is placed perpendicular to the one below. This is a more modern way to take advantage of the space below and include cabinets, drawers or a study table
  • Sleeping berth bunk beds: beds are in line, but displaced. More space is needed to install this type of bunk beds, especially if it is for children’s bedroom.
  • Folding bunks: one bed is fitted on top of the other, but both are enclosed inside a piece of furniture fixed to the wall.

Benefits of bunk beds: the contract sector

Bunk beds are not only common in children’s bedrooms, but also represent huge advantages for the contract sector. At 30m2, we are dedicated to designing products that furnish spaces that form part of the contract sector, which is comprised of shared accommodation places including hostels, youth hostels, hospitals and a range of other types of accommodation.

One of the main advantages offered by bunk beds is the effective management of space. A key issue faced by those in the tourist sector is the optimisation of the rooms so that they fit the largest number of people. Bunk beds provide a highly effective solution to this issue, considering that they double the space in any room.

Another huge advantage provided by bunk beds is the level of intimacy and privacy they offer, given that they offer much more privacy than two beds situated next to each other. Each guest is in a self-contained bed and can’t see what the guest above or below is doing.

Bunks are also easy-to-clean spaces since there is less surface area being used and they can be swept or scrubbed more quickly and efficiently. In addition, being slightly higher from the ground than normal beds, they make it easier to clean, sweep and mop underneath the bed itself.

30m2 bunk beds – different types of bunk beds and a range of options

30m2 has manufactured a range of bunk beds with the specific needs of the contract sector in mind. These bring together an optimised selection of bunk beds in two collections: Hostel Locker bunk beds and Intimate bunk beds.

On the one hand,  Hostel Locker bunks are designed to offer maximum space. Therefore, they have built-in drawers under the lower bed. These types of bunk beds allow for cleaner rooms and ensure that guests have a comfortable and pleasant stay.

On the other hand, the Intimate Hostel  enhances the intimacy offered by the bunks reinforcing it with curtains fitted on each bed. This allows us to create more intimate spaces in group accommodation.

In addition, both the Locker and Intimate ranges offer the option of a  double design with the Duo line, representing the most comfortable option for furnishing rooms in hostels or other group accommodation since their double format allows for better use of space and a more unified design.
